Chelsea News: Diego Costa given Flamengo shirt as transfer rebel watches match at Maracana

Costa was at Brazil’s national stadium to watch Flamengo’s 1-0 win over Botafogo in a local derby in Rio de Janeiro.

The striker is currently AWOL in South America as Chelsea demand he return to the club.

Costa has no future at Chelsea but the Blues want him training in order to sell him at their £50million valuation before the summer is out.

Costa has released a number of statements from Brazil expressing his frustration at not being granted the chance to re-sign for Atletico Madrid.

But the 28-year-old looked far from grumpy as he enjoyed the Flamengo match – before being presented with a shirt.

A fan is seen walking into the room where Costa and his entourage are enjoying some snacks.

The fan whips off his shirt and hands it to Costa, who laughs and puts in on his shoulder.

But the fan isn’t done there.

He makes sure he gets a photo with the Brazil native, who is a Spain international, and Costa appears happy with the present received.

It is not known if Costa plans to return to Europe before Thursday’s transfer deadline in the stand-off between him and Chelsea continues.

Express Sport understands he has already been fined £300,000 for not turning up for work.

He wants to join Atletico but they are unwilling to stump up £50million for a player they cannot field until January due to a FIFA-imposed transfer ban.

A short-term move to AC Milan has been proposed but Costa does not appear keen on playing in Italy.

Yesterday Chelsea and Atletico were drawn in the same Champions League group alongside Roma and Qarabag.
